Outreach: Behind the Scenes
Contrary to what you might think, quite a few Outreach task are pretty behind the scenes.
For example, all Flight Club members for the past month have been reaching out to family members, co-workers, classmates, friends, family friends, associates (and even Elon Musk’s twitter) to:
1. Inform them on our awesome project
2. More importantly to ask them all for a kind donation to our cause!!
Since the creation of Flight Club in October, Outreach has been trying to figure out how best to receive the funds for the construction of our aircraft. Initially, we saw this as applying and receiving grants…. Buuuuut due to 501c3 complications (along with a couple of really helpful conversations) Flight Club ultimately decided that the best way to fund our project was to do it grassroots style and crowdfund! (I mean… we’re already going to be building the plane in our garages, might as well keep the classic old school vibe goin' with crowdfunding) As you can tell from the donation page on our website, we are currently 2K away from reaching our goal!!
Let me be real for a second and say that I never actually thought we’d be anywhere close to reaching our goal. (Let’s see how long it takes for my team members to bash me for this lol) But seriously, it blows my mind what a bunch of high schoolers can really accomplish when they all put in the time and effort-
WHICH brings me to my next Outreach update…
Flight Club has also been seeking to extend our team! Yes, very exciting news as the lot of us are rising seniors… ( ͡ಥ ͜ʖ ͡ಥ) The applications we have received and the interviews we conducted really amazed us all. (There are some seriously insane people out there in the world.) Full disclaimer: none of us have actually done this before (much like our entire project BUT ANyways) and so naturally we had a couple of “oh that would’ve been a good idea” moments NONE THE LESS we are greatly looking forward towards expanding our club!!
Be sure to stay tuned for more updates on Flight Club and follow us on our socials!! ~Magnolia
